Are You Ready to Parent?

Parenting is a lifelong experience, but you will be responsible for caring for your child from birth through age 18. While it has its challenges, it can also be very rewarding.

When you first begin to explore the idea of parenting, you might feel a little overwhelmed. How do you know this is the right option for you?

First, you can evaluate your current situation and ask yourself important questions about what this option would look like. Then, you can determine what you’d need to make parenting possible (if it’s an option you’re leaning toward).

Here are some critical questions to consider:

  • Where am I living currently? Can I provide a stable home environment for a child?
  • Will the baby’s father be involved in their life? Do I understand what financial support they might be entitled to provide?
  • Do I have a strong support system to help me with the ups and downs of parenting?
  • Am I financially, physically, and mentally able to provide for a child?
  • If I’d like to parent, what resources might I need to be successful?

After answering these questions, you can begin to learn what resources and support are available. Azar House provides prenatal and parenting classes, material assistance through our Earn While You Learn program, and more.

We are here for you as you consider parenting

Could Adoption Be an Option?

Adoption involves giving birth and placing your child in an adoptive family who will care for and raise them. It can be emotionally difficult for some women but provides peace of mind and closure for others.

You alone can decide if adoption is best for you. If you select this option, you will create an adoption plan that outlines your preferences for this arrangement, including a desired level of contact.

Multiple adoption plans are available, including the following:

  • Open adoption: You regularly communicate with your child and their adoptive family through phone calls, visits, etc. You play a vital role in your child’s life; they will know who you are.
  • Semi-open adoption: You communicate with your child and their adoptive family through a third party (like the adoption agency), so limited information is exchanged.
  • Closed adoption: All identifying records are sealed, and you and the adoptive family will not know each other.

Adoption is a big decision, and you have many factors to consider. The agency covers all adoption-related expenses, and the adoptive family may cover your medical costs.

We’ll discuss adoption and help you determine whether it’s right for you. We can also refer you to adoption agencies and specialists to provide further clarity.

No matter your choice, we’ll help you find information and resources.
