What Are Some Early Signs of Pregnancy?

  • A missed period (the most common sign of pregnancy)
  • Frequent urination
  • Swollen and sore breast
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Weight and appetite change
  • Headaches
  • Backaches

While these are some common signs of pregnancy, every woman experiences pregnancy differently and every pregnancy is different. If you think you may be pregnant, it is always better to come in and let us use our lab-quality testing so you know for sure.

What Should I Expect During a Pregnancy Test?

First, you will be asked to give a urine sample. Then, a nurse will take that sample and test it for the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) which is a hormone associated with pregnancy. The test should be taken one week after your missed period to allow for enough hCG to build up in your system to be detected. Since this test only takes a couple of minutes, you will get your results during your appointment. If your test is positive, we will perform an ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy. During this ultrasound, we will also be looking to determine how far along the pregnancy is and if the pregnancy has implanted in the uterus.

I Took an At-Home Pregnancy Test. Do I Still Need To Be Tested to Get an Ultrasound?

If a test is taken too early in the pregnancy or incorrectly, there is still a chance that the test could provide false results. While at-home pregnancy tests have become more accurate and user-friendly over the years, our tests are 99 percent effective and are administered by our expert staff. It is always better to be sure when it comes to an unplanned pregnancy and we want to give you that security. No matter if your test was positive or negative, we encourage you to make an appointment to get a free and confidential pregnancy test.

What Happens if My Test is Positive?

If your test is positive, we will administer an ultrasound to determine where the pregnancy is located, how far along the pregnancy is, and if a fetal heartbeat can be detected. Our staff is here to discuss and inform you about your options going forward. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about pregnancy, adoption, abortion, and parenting. We are here to support you through your decision and to provide you with resources to empower you throughout this process. Contact us today to schedule your appointment.

You will never have this day again, so make it count.
